Saints safely into the last sixteen

THE New Saints avoided a potential banana skin in the Rhondda Valley to reach the last 16 of the Welsh Cup.

The Saints beat Welsh League Cambrian & Clydach 2-0, with John McKenna taking-up where he left-off against Llanelli in midweek with the opening goal on 11 minutes.
In a replica of his second goal on Tuesday night, McKenna produced a diving header into the far corner from a Craig Jones cross after good work by Steve Abbott.
Aeron Edwards and Jones combined to create an opening for Abbott, but his header was cleared off the line by Scott Hayward.
Huw Bowtell's long range effort was easily dealt with by TNS keeper Paul Harrison and the Saints added to their lead straight after half-time.
Another Jones cross from the right was flicked on by McKenna and Aeron Edwards lobbed keeper Jarred Howells from eight yards.
Chris Seargeant almost added a third when his 25-yard free-kick was palmed onto the bar by the keeper, but head coach Andy Cale was satisfied to come away with the win.
"Credit to the opposition who put a fantastic game in, they worked hard and battled," he said.
"But in fairness to my players, I thought they matched them for all of those things and were able to get a couple of goals at just the right time.
"I'm very pleased with the way we played in difficult conditions in a very, very difficult cup tie."
