McCreesh brace ends Saints' perfect start

THE New Saints' failed to end their GenQuip Stadium hoodoo as their perfect start to the Welsh Premier season came to an abrupt end.

The Saints lost 2-0 to Port Talbot Town, with Liam McCreesh (pictured) bagging a first-half brace.
After half chances at either end, the Steelmen went in front midway through the first half when Lee John delivered a perfect cross for McCreesh to steal in and score with a header.
Lee Kendall in the home goal had to stay alert as TNS produced some neat approach play, but the crucial second goal was scored by the hosts.
It was McCreesh who was again on target, this time skilfully rounding two defenders before firing past a helpless Paul Harrison in the Saints’ goal just before half time.
Saints threw Steve Evans up front in a bid to add some bite to their attack but the Steelmen held firm.
The visitors had a late appeal for a penalty turned down by referee Andy Harms after Steve Abbott's run into the box appeared to be halted by a trip, and sub Craig Williams blazed high over the bar.
