Saints show racism the red card

THE New Saints will join all 18 Welsh Premier clubs this weekend in calling for a racism-free environment in football and society throughout Wales.

Players in 35 European countries are involved in similar events as part of the Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE) network against racism and discrimination.
Show Racism the Red Card is calling for a joint effort to make racist abuse as unacceptable in Welsh society as it has become in professional football. While racism has reduced in the professional game it is still occurring on a daily basis in society and within grass roots football.
The support from the Welsh Premier League clubs has helped the campaign progress their work throughout Wales over the past years and last season saw Llanelli AFC and Airbus AFC hold events with young children educating them about racism and its effect along with the consequences of being a racist.
These sessions gave local schoolchildren across Wales an opportunity to ask the players questions about their own experiences of racism in football and while growing up in school; it provided an opportunity for discussion about dealing with racism.
This season will see other clubs involved in these educational workshops delivered to local school children around Wales promoting the anti-racism message, along with having an anti-racist team poster produced for the first time.
If you see or hear racism at any level of football, please report it to the club, stewards or the police.
