Macca at the double to sink the Reds

THE New Saints maintained their grip on the Loosemores League Cup with a comprehensive 4-1 defeat of Llanelli at Park Hall.

A brace from John McKenna set the Saints on the road to the semi-final after the shock of conceding a goal to the visitors in the fourth-minute.
Owain Warlow seized on a defensive error to cross from the left for Rhys Griffiths to put the Reds in front, but only superb saves from visiting keeper Craig Morris denied Steve Abbott's header and a 35-yarder from Pip Baker.
Ruscoe had his shot cleared off the line but, from the subsequent Craig Williams corner, Steve Evans headed the Saints level on 36 minutes.
McKenna then notched a quick brace to put TNS in control before half-time, his first a scorching 15-yarder after good work by Hogan.
Abbott then fed Craig Jones whose right-wing cross was met with a diving header from the unmarked 20-year-old.
The second-half never reached the heights of the first period but, after surviving a succession of Llanelli corners, the Saints were gifted the chance to seal the tie when Chris Venables handled and Ruscoe made no mistake from the penalty spot.
