Striker shortage hits Saints' double bid

THE New Saints will have to overcome a striker shortage if they are to make it a double by retaining the Loosemores League Cup against Rhyl on Tuesday night (The Airfield, 7.30pm).

Leading scorer Chris Sharp is cup-tied, having played for Bangor City earlier in the competition, while Matthew Berkeley has damaged shoulder ligaments sustained in the 4-0 home win over Haverfordwest a week ago.
Craig Whitfield also misses out after appearing in earlier rounds while on loan at Elements Cefn Druids.
The Saints' management team have the option of calling-up Steve Abbott or Alex Darlington to possibly partner Jamie Wood up front.
Meanwhile, the final is a last chance of silverware this season for the Lillies, who finished sixth in the table but have a fine record in the League Cup in recent years.
Player-boss Greg Strong hopes to have ex-TNS defender Martyn Naylor available tonight after injury, while the Saints will also face another former team-mate in midfielder John Leah.
