Hungarians complete Champions League line-up
Monday 24 May 2021
THE list of potential Champions League opponents for The New Saints is now complete after Debrecen clinched the Hungarian title on Sunday.
The club from their country's second largest city, Debrecen became only the second Hungarian side (after Ferencvaros) to reach the group stages of the competition last season.
They failed to gain a point in games against Fiorentina, Olympique Lyonnais and Liverpool and were then subject to investigation after claims of match-fixing.
Earlier, the Hungarians had beaten Sweden's Kalmar on away goals after a 3-3 aggregate draw and Levadia Maardu (whom TNS played in the 2000 competition) 2-0.
In the play-offs Debrecen won 2-1 at Levski Sofia and then 2-0 at home to reach the lucrative group stage.
