Nine-man CSKA crash to second home defeat
Tuesday 10 August 2021
THE New Saints' Europa League play-off opponents CSKA Sofia flopped at home again in their latest domestic league outing.
Watched by Saints' boss Mike Davies, who was on a spying mission in the Bulgarian capital, CSKA were reduced to nine men as they lost 2-1 to Chernomorets Burgas, their second home defeat in a row after yielding 1-0 to rivals Levski on the opening day of the campaign.
The hosts were ahead inside the first minute thanks to Rumen Trifonov, but Burgas soon levelled, and a 42nd-minute goal proved to be the winner as Italian defender Guiseppe Aquaro and midfielder Boris Galchev were both dismissed in the second-half for picking up two cautions in a fiesty 10-card affair.
CSKA are now bottom of the Bulgarian A League after losing their first two matches of the new season.
