End of academy season
Tuesday 13 April 2021
Well done to the whole squad who have improved over the season and should have a busy fixture list next season.
This week the U15s lost 3-0 to St Andrews School from New Zealand but were up against a team containing several U16 players. Their second half performance was really good and but for some poor finishing and excellent goalkeeping by the opposition they could easily have ended winning the game.
Last weekend was disappointing to say the least as all three of our Academy teams went out of the cup at the Quarter final stage. The U12s were left ruing a few missed chances, two of which hit the woodwork, and a great display of goalkeeping by the young Bala keeper. The result should take nothing away from their performance though and this squad has really come together over the season under their excellent young coach Eric Ramsay.
The U14s had an off day against Airbus and despite the match being scoreless at the interval Airbus ran out 5-0 winners.
The U16s played Rhyl and lost 4-1 to a superb Rhyl team who outplayed us on the day and ran out worthy winners. Despite the result this squad have been exceptional over the season and deserve credit for their performances and results which included winning the U16 section at the Shrewsbury tournament.
The Academy is now closing until the trials for next season have been held and all the new season’s squads have been finalized. Please attend as many trial sessions as possible and this applies to all current Academy players as well as all new trialists.
On a personal note I would like to thank Mike Davies for giving me the chance to manage the Academy as it is a privilege for me to work with such a great bunch of players and coaches.
Best wishes to you and Vicki on your forthcoming wedding on May 1st.
Thanks to all coaches , managers, and referees who have been involved in our games it is really appreciated.
Special mention to Andy Poole for all his help over the season, Andrew Lincoln for putting my gibberish on the website, Dave Jeffries for designing our database and Gordie Evans and all staff at the Venue.
Finally thanks to all players and parents who have behaved impeccably over the season and set a superb example to all Academy teams and supporters everywhere.
