TNS grabbed some silverware at last as the Youth team won an amazing game at
Park Hall to lift the Mid-Wales Youth Cup.
They beat Llanymynych Under-18s in a penalty shoot-out after the scores were
level 2-2 at full time and 3-3 after extra-time.
With Llany's side mainly consisting of TNS Reserves, all the goals were scored
by players with some affiliation to the club.
Dave Lewis fired TNS Youth in front after 15 minutes, but Llanymynych always
threatened and, after missing a first-half penalty and hitting the crossbar,
they levelled deservedly through James Henderson on 67 minutes.
Llany then took the lead through Sam Pickup with nine minutes to go, but Saints
were level a minute later through Dan Hamer.
Hamer had a chance to snatch a win in the last minute of normal time, but fired
over with only the keeper to beat.
Extra-time seemed destined to be scoreless until an action-packed last minute.
James Henderson looked to have won the cup for Llany, but David Lewis found
an equaliser in stoppage time.
Keeper Dan Edwards was the TNS hero as he saved Llany's first two penalties
from Matt Briggs and Matt Gethin. Cheadle and Lalley scored from the spot before
Richard Evans hit the post.
But Neil Prescott and Dave Lewis made no mistake to seal a dramatic victory.Photo: The victorious TNS Youth side with the trophy. |
