FRIENDLIES WITH SHROPSHIRE'S BIG TWO
Tommy Holmes
Action from last season's clash with the Shrews at Treflan
SHROPSHIRE'S 'big two', Shrewsbury Town and AFC Telford, are headed for pre-season friendlies at Treflan.
Back in England's renamed League Two after one season in the Conference, the Shrews played in Llansantffraid last close season, beating TNS 3-0 with goals from Karl Murray and Ryan Lowe (2).
AFC Telford is the phoenix from the ashes of Conference outfit Telford United, who crashed so spectacularly after last season.
The new club has been placed in Unibond Northern League Division 1 next season alongside the likes of Colwyn Bay, under newly-appointed manager Bernard McNally.
A former Telford striker, Saints' boss Ken McKenna played alongside McNally and scored in a friendly at the New Bucks Head recently in a game to raise cash for the club.
Saints start their pre-season schedule with a three match tour of Ireland, although they will fly in and out for each game.
They kick off at Limavady before meeting Irish League champions Linfield at Belfast's Windsor Park and a return visit to the scene of their 1-0 win last summer against Portadown.
TNS have also confirmed a new provisional date for their meeting with Hyde United on Wednesday 21 July at 7.30 pm.
