VAUXHALL Masterfit Welsh Retailers are to be the third sponsors in the Welsh Premier's 12-year history after officials agreed a deal believed to be worth £50,000.
The competition will now be known as the Vauxhall Masterfit Retailers Welsh Premier League - even more of a mouthful than the previous title.
In addition to the monetary element of the agreement, all involved with the FAW and the league will be able to access a wide range of leased cars through their local Vauxhall dealer.
The sponsor will also present manager and player of the month awards throughout the coming season.
“I am absolutely delighted the League has been able to attract sponsorship from such a prestigious brand as Vauxhall Masterfit,", said league secretary John Deakin.
"This will enable the League to give all clubs greater support than has previously been the case and I am sure that many club members and league staff will gain significantly from the vehicle lease scheme."
The agreement is initially for one season, with Vauxhall Masterfit having an option to renew for season 2005/6 and beyond.
League staff rang member clubs to seek their advice on the new deal which will see clubs benefit from straight cash instead of money plus cut-price deals on car leases with previous sponsors J T Hughes Mitsubishi.
"As far as I am aware, all clubs believe this is a better deal and because of that, the league should be congratulated," said a spokesman for one club.
J T Hughes Mitsubishi became the WP's second sponsor following the deal which made office supplies firm Konica the league's inaugural financial backer.
