TNS v Hyde United
Nicky Ward presses forward during the first half against Hyde
Total Network Solutions 5-0 Hyde United
Pre-season friendly
Tuesday 20 July 2004: Home, Treflan

THE first action of the new season at Treflan saw TNS receive a useful workout ahead of their Uefa Cup second leg tie next week.
The final scoreline looks comfortable enough, but hardly did justice to the efforts of the Unibond Premier League visitors, particularly in the first half.
After falling behind to a Nicky Ward goal after a quarter of an hour, Hyde gave as good as they got, with Keiran Delaney unlucky to have an equaliser ruled out for offside on 24 minutes after good work by Matt McNeil and Carl Barrowclough.
Phil Salt then seized on a Mark Connolly mistake but his lob beat the goal as well as Gerard Doherty and minutes later he was unlucky to see a 20-yard volley just graze the crossbar.
Mass substitutions and superior fitness told in the second half, which was pretty much one-way traffic. TNS loaned keeper James Coates to the visitors and he was picking the ball out of the net again just before the hour, when Martin Naylor's cross was eventually put away by Jamie McGuire.
Mike Wilde then got the first of two goals three minutes later, when he ran on despite a linesman's flag to net from 10 yards.
Jamie Wood added the fourth when the Hyde defence failed to clear their lines from a Naylor corner and Scott Ruscoe returned the ball for the striker to head in at the far post.
Ruscoe had come on to good effect for the final half-hour and after narrowly missing the target twice - and setting up several chances - he provided the cross for Wilde to finish off the evening in the last minute after a Hyde defender had headed against his own bar.
