SAINTS open their league programme at Treflan on Saturday and will be hoping
to get off to a flier by repeating last season's success against Afan Lido.
The south Walians crashed 5-0 in April, conceding two penalties converted by
Martin Naylor and goals from Wilde, Toner and Beck.
Both squads are little changed from that encounter, with Lido losing striker
Andrew Pearson and defender Stephen Parry, while adding veteran Paul Reid from
Carmarthen.
It's a familiar story, too, for Ken McKenna, with injuries again disrupting his
plans before the season has started.
Steve Evans played 20 minutes against AFC Telford last weekend but may not be
fit for a full 90, so former Aber boss Gary Finley has been signed non-contract
to fill the gap, with Jimmy Aggrey suspended for the first two games.
Martin Naylor has played through an ankle injury, but may need surgery to correct
the problem, and strikers Michael Wilde and Jamie Wood both face fitness tests.
McKenna may hand a debut to new signing John Lawless from Aberystwyth - the
left sided player impressed against Telford and gives Saints another attacking
option down the left hand side.
Seven days' notice of approach for Lawless's former Park Avenue colleague and
striker Lee Spike has now expired, but McKenna is unlikely to follow up on the deal, saying he "has other irons in the fire". |
