Robbie Fowler
MANCHESTER CITY manager Kevin Keegan is banking on striker Robbie Fowler having a cutting edge when the season opens.
City's first competitive game is only two weeks away when they face Saints in the UEFA Cup on August 14.
Fowler has played a part in every pre-season match as he builds up his fitness, but Keegan also needs him to get close to being the player he was before he left Liverpool.
The manager said, "Robbie needs a goal now. I think he is getting closer to full fitness. The important thing is that all the players are fit and ready to go when the season starts and I think they will be."
And Keegan is also facing a headache in midfield. Ali Benarbia has quit for Qatar, Eyal Berkovic has handed in a transfer request and to cap it all new signing Paul Bosvelt misses the first two league games through suspension.
The ban stands even though he picked it up playing in Holland for Feyenoord.
He will miss up the opening day game at Charlton and their first home match against Portsmouth.
However, Bosvelt will be eligible to play against TNS in the UEFA Cup on August 14.
