Ken McKenna
PORTADOWN 0 - 1 TOTAL NETWORK SOLUTIONS
Saturday 2 August, Away - Shamrock Park, 3.00 pm
TIRED after the early morning flight back from northern Ireland, Ken McKenna was nevertheless delighted with his squad of players after their 1-0 away win at Portadown.
"It was a great performance," said the manager.
"We played 4-4-2 in the first half and it worked really well.
John Leah was stretchered off 10 minutes after the break with an ankle injury.
"After John Leah's injury and with both Steve Evans and Tommy Holmes missing from defence, we had to revert to 4-5-1 for the last 35 minutes and the players still held their own.
"Portadown are also in the Uefa Cup, so to beat them away from home was some achievement.
"If you think about it, both the 0-1 defeat at Derry and yesterday's win would be highly acceptable away leg performances in European competition," he said.
Nicky Ward grabbed the winner on 75 minutes after a dazzling run by Simon Davies.
