KEEGAN AT TREFLAN AS EVERTON NAME FIRST TEAMERS
MANCHESTER City manager, Kevin Keegan, will be at Treflan tonight on a spying mission as Everton named three first teamers in their squad to visit the Saints (Friday, kick-off 7.30).
Goalkeeper Richard Wright plus midfield duo Li Tie and Lee Carsley are in the line-up for the final pre-season friendly of Saints' build-up to the Uefa Cup tie with Keegan's Premiership outfit.
Former England international Wright, who cost the Toffees 2.5 million when he joined them last year, is set to receive his first taste of football since the final day of last season, after he injured his shoulder in a freak domestic accident.
Since then, Wright has been able to train with the first team squad, but has been forced to sit out goalkeeping sessions with coach Chris Woods.
Lie Tie and Lee Carsley are also included in the travelling party for Llansantffraid, after the midfield duo missed Tuesday's friendly with Roda JC Kerkrade.
However, Leon Osman and Nick Chadwick, who both featured in the 0-2 defeat at the Larkstad Limburg Stadium, will also be a part of manager Andy Holden's side in what is Everton's final reserve friendly before the season starts.
Chinese superstar Li Tie signed for the Blues on a 12-month loan deal in August 2002 as part of the club's sponsorship deal with electronics giant Kejian. Capped more than 75 times for China, he was voted most valuable player in the Chinese League in 2002.
Lee Carsley came through the ranks at Derby County and played for Blackburn Rovers and Coventry before moving to Goodison in February 2002 for 1.9 milllion.
Meanwhile, Saints will definitely be without Steve Evans, still recovering from a hernia operation. Tommy Holmes, Chris King and John Leah are also fitness doubts.
It will be interesting to see if boss Ken McKenna gives a start to new signing Steven Beck, who played alonside many of the players in the Toffees' named squad while at the Goodison academy.
McKenna believes tonight's encounter will provide a timely test for his men.
"We've been playing some good football in our friendlies and tonight's game against a Premiership club should give us a good idea of what to expect next week," he said.
Everton squad: Wright, Turner, Clarke, Li Tie, McLeod, Schumacher, Chadwick, B Moogan, O'Hanlon, Pascucci, Brown, Carsley, Garside, Potter, Barry, Osman.
