WELSH Premier newcomers Porthmadog swooped for ex-Football League defender Alan Morgan (picture) after their latest pre-season success, a 3-1 home win over Halkyn United.
Aberystwyth-born Morgan, who is 29, was on Tranmere Rovers' books before gaining Conference experience at Doncaster Rovers and Morecambe.
He started his career with Wrexham and went on to make over 70 first-team appearances, before a spell on-loan to Altrincham during the 1996/97 season.
Porthmadog, who have won four and drawn one of their five practice run-outs, got their goals from Morgan and Carl Owen in the first-half and Gerallt Jones later on, with Keith Davies replying for Halkyn.
Stuart Rain notched a first-half hat-trick as Connah's Quay Nomads beat Buckley Town 5-1.
Jon Kenworthy and George Horan were Nomads' other scorers, while ex-Connah's Quay player Graham Randles provided Buckley with their lone reply.
Newtown completed their pre-season preparations with a 2-0 triumph over Ludlow Town, courtesy of first-half goals from Tom Reynolds and Steve Futcher.
Aberystwyth Town saw a 2-1 lead flip as they went down 3-2 at home to Hednesford, while Caersws were locked in a goalless deadlock at home to Welshpool.
