Alan Morgan has quit as manager of NEWI Cefn Druids
ALAN Morgan has resigned as manager of NEWI Cefn Druids in the wake of his side's 7-0 thrashing at Caersws on Saturday.
Former Tranmere midfielder Morgan says: "In the last four games we played well without getting results and I thought we could turn the corner.
"But Saturday's performance was awful and very few players were prepared to stand up and be counted.
"After the game, I felt it was in the best interests of the club for me to step down."
Appointed in the close season to succeed the sacked Steve O'Shaughnessy, Morgan has been unable to improve either the Druids' playing performances or their poor disciplinary record.
"It's really disappointing as I enjoyed being manager but perhaps this job came too early for me," he added. "By resigning now it gives whoever comes in a good chance to turn things round.
"There are good players here but they need to pick themselves up quickly," says Morgan, who will stay on at Plas Kynaston as a player.
Druids are without a win in 12 Welsh Premier League outings and currently lie fourth from bottom.
