PLAYER boss Mike Barton guided Guilsfield into the fourth round of the Central Wales Cup following a penalty shootout win over local rivals Welshpool Town.
With Pool's Welsh Premier game against Bangor postponed, the Lilywhites fielded several first-teamers, but they were no match for their Cymru Alliance rivals after a penalty shoot-out.
The sides had been level 2-2 at the end of extra time before the Guils won the spot kick decider with Barton saving penalties from Mark Roberts, Mark Thomas and Geraint Windsor before stepping up to convert the decisive spot kick.
There had been little to choose between the derby rivals with Steve Rogers giving Pool an early lead when converting a Will Pritchard cross.
The Guils soon hit back with Tom Coulson firing home a free kick before Gareth Jones struck a second after the interval.
Rogers rescued Pool with his second goal of the game to take the tie into extra time where neither side were able to conjure up a winner.
But it was the hosts who held their nerve in the spot kick decider to book their fourth round ticket.
