NEV Powell has turned to a pair of Connah's Quay Nomads old boys in a bid to bolster his injury-ravaged squad.
The Nomads boss hopes to complete the signing of former captain Carl Smyth and the versatile Nicky Brookman.
Powell has been forced to dip back into the transfer market with seven players currently unavailable for various reasons.
He said: "It's hard to remember a time when we've had so many injuries.
"We've got such a small squad and can't really cope with having so many players out. Nicky and Carl still have a high regard for the club and it will be good to see them back."
Powell put seven days' notice in for Brookman, who is out of the first team at Rhyl, last week. The Manchester-born 35-year-old made his Nomads debut in October 1993, making 56 league and cup appearances before spells at Conwy, Bangor and Caernarfon.
Centre back Smyth, 34, plays in the West Cheshire League, and made 281 appearances for Nomads between 1995 and 2002. He spent last season at Caernarfon Town.
Powell moved in for his old captain after learning diabetic Gary McCosh is taking a two-month break from football.
Nomads have made their worst-ever start to a Welsh Premier season.
