FORMER TNS defender Lee Coathup will replace another Saints' favourite, Gary Brabin, when he returns to UniBond League Premier Division club Witton Albion as assistant manager.
Coathup, who was sacked as Rhyl coach at the end of last season, was the Northwich club's left back in the early 1990s under Peter O'Brien and widely regarded as man-of-the-match when Albion lost 3-1 to Colchester in the 1992 FA Trophy Final of 1992.
After being forced to quit the game with a heart problem, Brabin went to Wincham Park with former Aberystwyth Town manager Gary Finley, but quit last month for personal reasons.
"Gary came with me in November and I am disappointed to see him go. We are good mates - he lives only a few doors down from me - but that's football," said Finley, who had a brief spell at Treflan in summer 2004.
"I have known Lee for a number of years and have played against him a few times.
"He was the assistant manager at Irlam Town when they won everything two years ago, and I have done well to get him to come to Witton."
Coathup became a Treflan stalwart after playing with Altrincham and Stalybridge, winning a Welsh Premier championship medal in 1999/2000 and made a total of 75 appearances before joining Rhyl in August 2002.
He was also voted TNS Supporters' Player of the Year in 2000/1.
Coincidentally, TNS host Witton in a pre-season friendly on 13 August.
