McKENNA DOWN TO THE BARE BONES |

Phil Baker
in action against Witton, before leaving the field with an ankle injury |
WITH a week to go before the new season, Saints' boss Ken McKenna has a squad
which is already down to the bare bones.
Phil Baker is the latest casualty, limping off the field after 10 minutes of the
pre-season friendly against Witton Albion with an ankle injury that could keep
him out of contention for two weeks.
Tommy Holmes strained a groin in training on Friday, to join skipper John Leah and
wing back Martyn Naylor on the sidelines.
Leah should be back in training within a week or so after undergoing minor surgery
on a knee, which revealed no serious damage.
But Naylor's prognosis is still uncertain as he awaits the results of a knee
scan today. If nothing is revealed, he faces a cortisone injection to try and
alleviate the problem.
That leaves just 13 full-timers fit in the first-team squad, along with promising
youth midfielder Mark Davies.
Meanwhile, McKenna is hoping to talk to AFC Telford frontman Alfie Carter in a
bid to strenghten his strike options.
TNS can speak to the player on Friday when the seven days' notice of approach
expires. |
