Sat 27 August 2005: Away - The Traeth

THE moment football junkies crave has finally arrived, the first day of the new league season with Saints handed two away tasks in four days.
First-up is a trip to Porthmadog on a Bank Holiday weekend, guaranteed to infuriate caravan haters even more than usual!
TNS travel with a depleted squad, with Baker, Lawless, Leah and Naylor all sidelined, but buoyed by the arrival of new signing Alfie Carter.
The former AFC Telford man's move has received international clearance and he could well be handed a debut down the left-hand side as TNS look to repeat last season's three-pointer at The Traeth, when a late Marc Lloyd Williams goal silenced the home faithful.
Port are never easy prey on their home turf and in Ryan Davies and Lee Webber they have a stubborn central defensive pairing that frustrated many opponents last season. But the suspension of Davies after dismissal in last week's home League Cup defeat to resurgent Airbus could be a chink in the home side's armour.
Scoring goals was also a problem for management duo Viv Williams and Osian Roberts last season and they have added former Bangor forward Les Davies, who will prove an added threat alongside strike pair Gareth Caughter and Ritchie Owen, both dangerous on their day, and Gareth Parry.
TNS have only won twice at The Traeth in seven visits, so a victory would be a welcome start to the new campaign.
