STRUGGLING Cwmbran are interested in signing defender Jason Perry, whose colourful two-year spell at Newport County is over.
Crows manager Brian Coyne admits: "We would be very interested in signing Jason Perry.
"He is a very experienced defender that has played at the highest-level - and they are hard to come by."
In agreement with the 33-year-old player, Newport have terminated Perry's contract, which was due to expire next summer, after the two parties agreed a settlement fee.
Perry (pictured) won one full Welsh international cap in John Toshack's only game in charge against Norway in March 1994.
signed from Hull City in the summer of 2001, Perry was appointed assistant to then manager, Tim Harris, in November of that year.
Harris sacked him from his post in March the following year after a `clash of personalities' and Perry was told to stay away from the club on full pay.
The Cardiff City skipper agreed to return when Peter Nicholas replaced Harris 11 months ago and the player performed well for County at the back-end of last season.
However, the relationship between Nicholas and Perry deteriorated after the manager alleged the player refused to play in a County friendly at Ross Town, the player claiming the away trip was a youth team fixture.
Nicholas then insisted Perry was `surplus to requirements' at Spytty Park.
