Vauxhall Masterfit Welsh Premier League
Sat 22 Oct 2005: Home - Treflan
ABERYSTWYTH hadn’t avoided league defeat at Treflan since 1998, but for
44 minutes they looked in with a chance.
But a triple whammy in a five-minute spell either side of the break dashed their
hopes and sent TNS to a seventh successive Welsh Premier win.
Both keepers enjoyed a relatively quiet afternoon until Steven Beck’s superb
chip from a Barry Hogan through ball finally beat visiting keeper Richard Morgan.
And within a minute, Scott Ruscoe outpaced Aneurin Thomas down the left before
cutting in to beat Morgan at the far post from a narrow angle.
Aber’s Jonathan Coates was so unimpressed with his skipper’s defending
that the pair had to be pulled apart by team-mates.
But the half-time arrival of player/manager David Burrows failed to stem the
green and white tide as poor defending allowed Steve Evans to cut the ball back
from the by-line for Beck to drive his fourth goal in three games in the 48th
minute.
A superb move involving Jamie Wood, sub Michael Wilde and Ruscoe ended with Nicky
Ward heading past Morgan at the near post.
With the Aber defence under severe pressure, Wilde broke past Burrows for the
fifth and only two fine saves from Morgan prevented Beck and John Toner from
rubbing salt in the wounds in the dying moments. |
