Wayne Evans has a heading duel with FITC manager Mike Davies.
IN a major coup for mid-Wales football, Wayne Evans has been appointed junior development director of the Total Network Solutions FC Academy.
One of the best footballers ever produced by the region, Abermule-born Wayne will be involved in the development of young players up to the age of 16 at the club, building on the work established by the TNS Football Academy and Football in the Community Schemes.
Currently working towards his UEFA `A' Licence, 34-year old Wayne will work alongside the club's Football in the Community manager, Mike Davies.
The right back has recently retired from playing with Conference National outfit Kidderminster Harriers after a Football League career which has seen him make 432 league appearances and 34 in the FA Cup for Walsall and Rochdale since leaving Welshpool in 1993.
"Wanners is an excellent coach and has a great personality, which is vital when working with children and schools," says Davies, who is delighted to have captured the services of Evans.
"Our main objective is to raise the profile of the football club by providing a quality coaching product for boys and girls in the locality and to build on the good work that has been established over the past few years."
In a change to the club's development structure, current Academy Directors Martin Pope and Peter Griffiths will take on full responsibility for developing and further enhancing the club's 16 to 19 year old scholarship programme in conjunction with Walford and North Shropshire College, as well as continuing to be responsible for the Under-21 side, reserves and youth teams.
The club will be enhancing its academy programme as well as developing its community based activities, which offer schools' coaching, either in-curriculum or after school, development centres in various venues, soccer camps during school holidays and newly formed Saturday morning clubs.
