LADIES BOUNCE BACK TO THE TOP |
 |
TNS Ladies 4-1 Loughborough Students
Midland Women's Combination League
Sunday 18 December 2005: Home - Baschurch
TNS Ladies bounced back well from their home defeat by title rivals
Leafield Athletic the previous Sunday to regain top spot with this win at Walford.
TNS were missing three regulars due to flu and with Kate Thomas feeling under
the weather, they went into the game with only 11 players altogether. Taking
this into account, they considered themselves to be doing well reaching half
time with a blank scoreline.
Both sides went off like a train with Loughborough
the better side for the first 20 minutes. Indeed, the visitors twice hit the
woodwork through Nic Tweedle (bar) on 8 minutes and Alex Shepherd (post) on 18.
Stand-in TNS keeper Danni Petrovic was kept busy by the visitors but the hosts'
grit and determination saw them come back into the game.
TNS eventually went ahead
in the 47th minute when Stacy Davis' defence splitting pass found Jemma Lloyd
who fired home from inside the penalty area. Just eight minutes later, it was
2-0
when Natalie Poole fired home from Verity Farrall's left wing corner.
TNS were
now well in control and it perhaps no surprise when they went 3-0 up on 63 minutes
when Farrall's pass found Lloyd who beat the offside trap before tucking the
ball past advancing keeper Naomi Bruton from inside the box. Some careless TNS
defending allowed Jen Poole to reduce the arrears to 3-1 in the 85th minute but
the hosts restored their 3 goal margin at 4-1 in
the 87th minute when Kate Challinor spotted Bruton off her line and chipped the
ball from the right over the keeper's head and in at the far post.
There are no
league fixtures on either of the next two Sundays due to Christmas and New Year
with TNS Ladies' next game due to be played on Sunday 8 January when they are
away to Coventry City Ladies in the league, kick off 2.00pm.
