SHANNON AGAIN THE PARTY-POOPER
Marc Lloyd Williams beats Gerard McGuigan for the Saints' goal.
TNS 1-1 Welshpool Town
Vauxhall Masterfit Welsh Premier League
Monday 2 January 2006: Home - Treflan
ADEN Shannon was again Welshpool's New Year party pooper as his last minute goal denied Saints all three points at Treflan.
Last New Year's Day, Shannon bagged a hat-trick and the enigmatic striker was on hand unmarked at the far post to head past Gerard Doherty from Justin Wickham's cross.
TNS should have had the game sewn up well before the substitute's intervention, but despite creating plenty of chances they only had a 55th minute Marc Lloyd Williams goal to show for their efforts.
Michael Wilde came closest to opening the Saints' account in the 22nd minute but his header from a Lloyd Williams cross hit the post before rebounding to a grateful McGuigan.
It was Wilde who returned the compliment for the goal, crossing from the right for Jiws to slot home from inside the six-yard box.
Lloyd Williams was just denied from adding a second a minute later after a superb solo run, but Welshpool sounded a warning when Steve Rogers was just high with a header on the hour.
John Toner almost added a second with his first touch after coming on as a sub and when Calvin Davies miskicked in front of an open goal, Pool's luck appeared to be out.
But Shannon had other ideas to make Welshpool the first side to take anything away from Treflan this season.
