Newtown AFC v TNS
FAW Premier Cup Quarter-final
Tuesday 10 January 2006: Away - Latham Park (7.00pm)
IF TNS can repeat their Welsh Premier title success of last season, nothing would please the management more than to add a first-ever final appearance in the FAW Premier Cup.
Apart from the lucrative prize money on offer - £100,000 to the winners - it could offer another chance to test the Saints' credentials against league opposition in the shape of either Cardiff, Swansea or Wrexham.
The big three must first negotiate Welsh Premier or Conference South opposition and TNS have to overcome Newtown in their quarter-final clash at Latham Park.
TNS have twice beaten the Robins this season, 6-1 at Treflan in the Challenge Cup and 3-0 away in the league.
The Robins come into the game on the back of a six-game losing streak, their latest defeat a 6-0 hammering at Carmarthen on Saturday. Their troubles can be traced back to Danny Barton's knee injury in a 2-1 win at Welshpool back in November, since when Roger Preece's men have put their encouraging start behind them and plummeted down the table.
Ken McKenna's men will be buoyed by their 7-0 win over Porthmadog but, with £25,000 minimum at stake for the winners, the game is likely to be closer than recent form suggests.
