Newtown AFC 2-5 TNS
FAW Premier Cup Quarter-final
Tuesday 10 January 2006: Away - Latham Park
TNS booked their place in the FAW Premier Cup semi-finals with a relatively comfortable victory on a Latham Park gluepot.
But despite dominating the opening exchanges they had to overcome a one goal deficit after 15 minutes when Michael Jackson was adjudged to have fouled Peter Smith and former Saint Darren Ryan converted the spot kick.
Mike Wilde should have opened the scoring in the second minute, but blazed wide from a good position, while Barry Hogan went close after the Robins' goal from a Wilde knockdown.
But two goals in three minutes turned the game in Saints' favour. Phil Baker's free kick fell to Nicky Ward who made no mistake from close range and Ward then crossed for Martin Giles to head into his own net.
John Leah crossed from the byline for John Toner to tap home shortly after the restart but Newtown were not finished and sub Andrew Webb scored with his first touch.
But TNS roared back and Phil Baker fired through a crowded goalmouth from 20 yards before Steven Beck rounded off the scoring after being set up by sub Marc Lloyd Williams.
