FARRALL HAT-TRICK OPENS SIX-POINT GAP |
 |
TNS Ladies 5-0 Shrewsbury Town
Midland Women's Combination League
Sunday 15 January 2006: Home - Baschurch
TNS Ladies kept their title challenge on track with a five-star performance
at home to bottom of the table Shrewsbury Town Ladies.
The hosts dominated the game for long periods with wingers Jemma Lloyd and Kate
Challinor giving the Shrews' full-backs a torrid time all afternoon. In fact,
the visitors only had one shot on goal in the whole of the 90 minutes.
TNS opened
their account in the 7th minute when Challinor crossed from the right and Verity
Farrall headed in from close range. It was 2-0 on 25 minutes
when Shrews' keeper Becky Friar brought down Farrall just inside the box for
a penalty which Farrall herself converted.
Lloyd crossed from the left and Farrall was left with an easy tap in from inside
the six yard area to complete her hat-trick
10 minutes before the break.
The fourth goal came just two minutes after the restart when Challinor's cross
from the right somehow went through three defenders to leave Sally Jones with
a simple tap in at the far post.
What proved to be the final goal came in the
55th minute when Natalie Poole picked up a loose ball halfway inside the Shrews
half and ran on into the area
before unleashing a thunderbolt of a shot past Friar.
TNS could have probably
had three or four more goals and have now opened up a six-point lead over
Second-placed Crewe Ladies, although the Cheshire side have two games in hand.
This Sunday TNS Ladies are away to Rotherham United Ladies in the league with a 2.00pm kick-off.
