Rotherham United 2-0 TNS Ladies
Midland Women's Combination League
Sunday 22 January 2006: Away
AFTER their five-goal win over Shrewsbury Town Ladies the previous Sunday, TNS Ladies fell to only their third league defeat of the season with this loss in South Yorkshire on Sunday. TNS were only able to travel with 10 players due to two of the squad being ill and another three unable to make the trip due to work commitments.
The first goal came in the 15th minute when Sarah Davies picked up the ball in central midfield and beat two defenders before firing past TNS keeper Danni Petrovic from 12 yards for a great solo goal.
Rotherham failed to make their numerical advantage count and TNS kept them at bay until the second goal in the 88th minute. Davies picked up the ball on the right of midfield and cut in past full back Natalie Poole before firing an angled shot into the far corner from 14 yards.
Despite being under the cosh for long periods, TNS battled courageously throughout the entire 90 minutes and every one of their players can be very proud of their performance.
Despite this defeat, TNS are still top but their lead has been cut to three points with second placed Crewe having two games in hand.
This Sunday TNS Ladies are away to Derby County Ladies in the league, kick off 2.00pm.
