WARD FIRES SAINTS HOME AND ALMOST DRY
A joyful Nicky Ward gets a bear hug after scoring [Catherine Ivill].
TNS 2-0 Haverfordwest County
Vauxhall Masterfit Welsh Premier League
Tuesday 11 April 2006: Home - Treflan

A NICKY Ward screamer sealed the points for TNS and virtually ensures that the Welsh Premier trophy will remain at Treflan.
Although second-placed Llanelli can match the Saints' points total, they have a vastly inferior goal difference, but the celebrations will have to wait until Friday's visit to Caernarfon at least.
A makeshift line-up shaded the first-half action thanks to a 29th minute goal. From a right wing corner the ball was played on by Tommy Holmes and John Toner was credited with the goal, although Michael Wilde got the final touch as the ball went over the line.
Haverfordwest had their moments, with Richie Adams firing wide from a Lee Hudgell pass and Gerard Doherty forced to save with his feet when Nicky Palmer broke through.
The arrival of half-time sub Steve Evans settled the TNS backline and Wilde came close to adding another on the restart when just failing to control Chris King's cross.
The second goal was well worth the wait. Man-of-the-match Barry Hogan's superb ball over the top was held up by Wilde and, as Toner screamed for a pass, the frontman laid the ball into the path of Ward who fired an unstoppable 20-yard shot past Lee Kendall and into the top corner.
Doherty brought off a good save to deny Hudgell, before John Leah's 30-yard effort was finger-tipped onto the crossbar by Kendall, who also did well to stop Marc Lloyd Williams from adding a third.
There was no wild celebration from the players at the final whistle, but they know it is all over bar the shouting.
