SAINTS WILL BE CROWNED ON SATURDAY
No trophy, as Chris King and Steve Evans celebrate the title win at Caernarfon.
A BREAK with tradition meant there was no Welsh Premier trophy to accompany the celebrations as TNS retained their crown at Caernarfon's Oval on Good Friday.
Manager Ken McKenna was upset that the silverware was nowhere to be seen: "Before the game you never want to say 'bring the trophy' in case things don't go according to plan, but the trophy should be here," he said.
But plans had already been laid by league secretary John Deakin and Welsh language broadcaster S4C for a staged presentation after next Saturday's league game with Llanelli at Treflan.
"It's been planned for a while," said Deakin. "The S4C cameras will be there together with pyrotechnics."
McKenna was delighted with the performance of his charges. "If you look at the lads right from the start of the season when we played Liverpool, they've shown tremendous character. They've totally dominated the league this year and they've led from the front," he added.
Managing director Mike Harris could not conceal his excitement at a third championship. "It's always good to win and this is great," he said.
"My aim is the Champions League group stages, that's why I sold my business. Would I do that if I didn't think it was possible?"
