JAY-JAY'S NIGHT TO REMEMBER SINKS DRUIDS
Youth teamers Mark Davies and Nathan Brown celebrate [Catherine Ivill].
TNS 4-1 NEWI Cefn Druids
Vauxhall Masterfit Welsh Premier League
Wednesday 19 April 2006: Home - Treflan
NINETEEN-year old Nathan 'Jay-Jay' Brown had a night to remember in his debut Welsh Premier appearance of the season.
On as a half-time sub for Nicky Ward, the third-year TNS Scholarship youth scored with his first touch in the 47th minute to end Druids' stubborn resistance, before setting up Marc Lloyd Williams for the second goal six minutes later.
Backs-to-the-wall Druids had somehow held out to the break against waves of TNS attacks in which the champions tended to over-elaborate, with Michael Wilde, Steve Evans and Barry Hogan all going close.
But Brown showed a cool head to chest down John Toner's cross and net from six yards, before his run and cross down the right found an unmarked Jiws in the six yard box for number two.
John Leah's cross gave Toner the opportunity to notch his third goal in three games before another youth teamer got in on the act. Mark Davies beat his marker down the left to cross for Lloyd Williams to grab his 26th league goal of the season and draw level with Port Talbot's Rhys Griffiths in the race for the Golden Boot.
TNS then gifted a goal to the Ancients when Phil Baker's back header was fumbled by Gerard Doherty at the feet of Samuel Kehinde, who hit the post with his first effort before slamming the rebound into an empty net.
