could be headed for a new career at the Racecourse [Matthew Ashton].
A SAINTS' stalwart for the last seven seasons, central defender Steve Evans
could be given the chance to resurrect his Football League career by Wrexham.
The Welsh Premier's outstanding defender over the past few years, 27-year old
Evans was watched by Dragons' scouts towards the end of the campaign and "the
renewal of his contract with TNS is subject to the outcome of the player's
negotiations with the Coca Cola League Two outfit", says general manager Ian
Meanwhile, 14 of the double-winning squad have been retained for next season's
campaign. As announced last week, Marc Lloyd Williams has not been offered
full-time terms and has subsequently had his contract terminated. Graham Evans was unable to agree terms on a new deal, while Martyn Naylor has been released.
With new regulations requiring the inclusion of four 'locally trained' players
for next season's Uefa competitions, two scholarship youngsters have been offered
full time junior pro contracts for next season.
Wing back Naylor made 80 Welsh Premier appearances during four seasons at Treflan,
also appearing in both legs of the Champions League tie with Liverpool and
three Uefa Cup games. With former clubs including Greenock Morton, Telford
and Shrewsbury Town, his appearances over the past two seasons were curtailed
Graham Evans played just three league games after joining mid-season from Hereford
United and, after attempting to re-establish a full-time career, is likely
to return to his home village club of Caersws.
"We would like to thank the three departed players for their services to the
club," says Williams.
