CLUBS GET THEIR WAY OVER LEAGUE EXPANSION
WP ARCHIVE
THE FAW has agreed to the Welsh Premier's plan for a return to 18 clubs next season, formulated at a meeting last week.
Providing clubs from the Cymru Alliance and Welsh League can meet the ground criteria, two will be promoted at the end of the season and just one relegated from the Premier.
The FAW had indicated they would like to see a 14-club league, but in return for the concession, it is likely the Welsh Premier has dropped its threat to go it alone and run the competition themselves.
Airbus UK are the most likely promotion candidates from the Alliance and are making moves to improve their facilities at Broughton, although 'Plan B' is a ground share with an existing Welsh Premier club, probably Connah's Quay.
Welsh League leaders UWIC will have a problem if they win the title, as a move to their former Leckwith Stadium home in Cardiff has been thwarted by the success of Cardiff City's new stadium plan, with involves the demolition of Leckwith.
