INJURY THWARTS BUNGLE'S HOPES
Chris Williams is stretchered-off at the Deeside Stadium.
CONNAH'S Quay defender Chris Williams was stretchered-off after 24 minutes of Tuesday night's FAW Premier Cup tie at the Deeside Stadium at the worst possible time in his career.
The 22-year-old went down following an accidental clash of heads with a team-mate and was later diagnosed with a fractured cheekbone at Chester Hospital.
Williams, known as Bungle to team-mates and fans, had recently returned from a trial at League One Millwall and was invited back in the near future, while he was also due to pursue his Football League ambitions by joining Tranmere Rovers for a try-out next week.
Nomads' boss Jim Hackett has confirmed that Williams requires surgery, which will be carried out later this week once the swelling on his face has subsided.
"Obviously Bungle's injury is not something that is wished on any player, therefore I'm sure that everyone involved with Nomads wishes him a speedy recovery," says Hackett.
"I'd arranged for him to go to Tranmere next week and he was due to go back to Millwall for a friendly match in a couple of weeks, so the timing of his injury could not have been much worse, the good thing is that both clubs will still want to see him when he's fit again," he added.
