JIWS RETURNS TO HIS ROOTS
Marc Lloyd Williams (right) returns to his home village.
NEWTOWN'S first-ever visit to Llanberis also marks the return home of the Welsh Premier's all-time record scorer Marc Lloyd Williams.
The 34-year-old, who has hit 263 Welsh Premier goals for Porthmadog, Bangor City, Aberystwyth, TNS and the Robins, was raised in the Snowdonia village and began his career with Llanberis Under-12s, where his father Iwan was manager.
These days, Euron Davies is in charge of the Welsh Alliance outfit, who have three players with Welsh Premier experience in their ranks - keeper Darren Owen was on the books of Bangor, while defenders Jason Joyce and Geraint Jones both played at Porthmadog.
"The cup tie has brought the whole village together," says Davies. "As it is a cup match and a one-off, anything can happen and, if we compete in every department, an upset could be on the cards."
Newtown boss Darren Ryan hopes that defender Hugh Clarke will be fit following an Achilles problem, but knows it will be a tough challenge.
"We'll like to go there and play pretty football, but the most important thing is that we're in the next round," says the Latham Park chief.
