BOTH SIDES HAVE POINT TO PROVE
LOOSEMORES LEAGUE CUP GROUP 3
THE NEW SAINTS v AIRBUS UK BROUGHTON
Tue 9 Oct 2021 / Park Hall / 7.30pm
Luke Holden and Carl Lamb were both on the scorers when Saints won at Airbus in the League Cup.
THE New Saints and Airbus have points to prove when they clash in the group stages of the Loosemores League Cup on Tuesday night.
Both were eliminated from the Welsh Cup on Saturday, TNS away at Connah's Quay and the Wingmakers in a second round shock at Cymru Alliance Guilsfield, who ironically would have been the Saints' third round opponents had they won the penalty shoot-out on Deeside.
With maximum points from their two group games to date, Saints can ensure qualification for the quarter-finals with a win at Park Hall, while Airbus are still pointless. They lost 3-2 to TNS at The Airfield back in August, and then went down by the only goal of the game at NEWI Cefn Druids.
Manager Ken McKenna is likely to tinker with his line-up as he seeks a solution to the lack of strike power evident at the Nomads ahead of Sunday's crucial Welsh Premier test at home to Rhyl.
Alfie Carter, who was sorely missed on Saturday, is rated only 50/50 to face the Lillies, while Ronnie Morgan and John Toner are back in training but unlikely to figure against Airbus.
Carl Lamb is likely to get the nod alongside Michael Wilde, although youth teamer Craig Whitfield may also figure at some stage.
Wilde's conversion rate of chances to goals is causing concern, especially after spurning a couple of good opportunities at the Deeside Stadium.
