RHYL CONCERN OVER UNRULY FANS
Rhyl are concerned over the behaviour of a minority of supporters.
RHYL supporters have been warned to watch their behaviour following a complaint over the conduct of a small group of fans at last month’s game at Haverfordwest, according to the Rhyl and Prestatyn Visitor.
The West Wales club wrote to Rhyl after a minority of Lilywhites followers clashed with stewards during a 1-1 Welsh Premier draw at the New Bridge Meadow on September 22.
Haverfordwest have not reported the matter to the Welsh FA, but Rhyl FC managing director Dave Milner has vowed a repeat of such behaviour will not be tolerated.
Rhyl were in hot water 12 months ago after fans allegedly spat at and verbally abused referee Dean John during a Welsh Premier match at Llanelli. The Welsh FA’s disciplinary panel found Rhyl guilty of bringing the game into disrepute and issued a £500 fine, £250 immediately payable and £250 suspended.
Following the Haverfordwest incident, Mr Milner issued a statement which was read out at half time of the Welsh Cup tie against Montgomery at Belle Vue on Saturday.
"It would appear there are a small number of people that are bringing the name of Rhyl FC into disrepute,” read the statement.
"The board consider that Rhyl FC can do without such individuals. I have instructed the stewards to eject anyone continually using foul or abusive language or making racial comments.
"These individuals will be banned from all home matches. Away clubs will be notified of these people and be advised they should not be allowed into away venues.
"Anybody turning up at Belle Vue considered the worse for wear due to alcohol will be turned away.
"I would ask all our good fans to inform a steward of any bad behaviour and identify the individuals involved.
"I want everybody to be aware this is an extremely serious matter. The board, staff and players are doing their best to ensure this club competes in Europe each year. We will not put this in jeopardy by tolerating behaviour that may cost us a fine or even a points deduction.”
