Ricky Evans congratulated by team mates after scoring City's opener (picture courtesy Bangor City crashed out of the Intertoto Cup in the first round in a heavy second-leg defeat in Romania.
Hoping for an early goal to reverse the one goal deficit from the first leg against Gloria Bistrita, the Citizens got the perfect start when ex-TNS midfielder Ricky Evans drilled home a 30-yard free kick after 17 minutes.
But Gloria, known as the "Dracula Boys" levelled through Adrian Anca before the break.
In the second half, Romanian international Lucian Sanmartean and Sergiu Mindrean put the tie beyond Bangor.
City defender Alan Goodall was then sent off controversially, with just 10 minutes remaining, for a challenge on Vasile Popa.
Manager Peter Davenport said: "It was never a dirty game and some of the referee's decisions were not right, but the Romanians suffered as much as we did."
In a frenetic finale to the match, Sanmartean netted his second, before substitute Ciprian Bucuroaia grabbed Gloria's fifth.
Bangor striker Ross Jefferies then followed Goodall down the tunnel after being shown a red card for retaliation.
But there was still time for Evans to score a consolation penalty for the visitors in injury time.
"We were looking OK at the break and I thought we had the better of the first 45 minutes," said Davenport.
"But we wilted in the heat in the second half - although the 5-2 score-line really flattered them.
"In the end, I think we were beaten by a better team over the two legs."
The Transylvanian team go on to face Italian Serie A team Brescia in the next round.
