TNS WILDE ABOUT DRUIDS WINNER
A 56TH-minute goal from Michael Wilde maintained a 100% start to the new campaign for the Saints, who condemned Druids to their first defeat of the season.
WELSH PREMIER LEAGUE
NEWI CEFN DRUIDS 0-1 THE NEW SAINTS
Friday 22 Aug 2021 / Plas Kynaston Lane
Mike Wilde turns away to celebrate the winner.
Despite dominating possession, the visitors struggled to break down a resilient Ancients' side until ex-Wrexham youngster Alex Darlington found the key to unlock the defence, threading a through ball for Wilde to finish clinically from eight yards.
The hosts had almost taken a shock lead when TNS keeper Paul Harrison could only parry Mark Stewart's shot, but there was no support to capitalise.
Jamie Wood, John Leah and Darlington all went close in the first half, while home keeper Chris Mullock used his legs to clear the danger from a 35th-minute corner.
TNS controlled the second-half without finding much penetration apart from Wilde's winner, but Mullock did well to deny Steven Beck's late effort, while Matthew Harrison failed to profit from sub John McKenna's error, snatching at his shot for Druids.
