DARLO SEALS PRESTATYN'S FATE
ALEX Darlington ensured newly-promoted Prestatyn went down to their first Welsh Premier defeat.
WELSH PREMIER LEAGUE
THE NEW SAINTS 2-0 PRESTATYN TOWN
Friday 29 Aug 2021 / Park Hall
Delight for Alex Darlington after scoring his first Welsh Premier goal.
The former Wrexham youngster scored after 59 minutes as The New Saints ran out 2-0 winners at Park Hall.
But the plucky Seasiders gave as good as they got in the first half until a foul by keeper Jon Dunt halted Duane Courtney's surge into the box and skipper John Leah stepped-up to convert the resulting penalty.
To their credit, the visitors came with an attacking line-up and Steve Bowes went close to notching his first goal in the top flight on 28 minutes.
But Dunt was soon in action again after Leah's 39th-minute penalty, making a superb flying save to keep out Steven Beck's 22-yarder.
Michael Wilde had penalty claims after his effort was just wide under pressure from the burly Prestatyn keeper, who had no chance with Darlington's header after Michael Wilde had laid the ball off from Scott Ruscoe's left-wing cross.
Neil Gibson went closest to a goal for Town, hitting the inside of a post with Paul Harrison beaten, but the game ended on a sour note when Jamie Wood was sent-off for foul and abusive language, protesting after referee Huw Jones had failed to award another spot kick for a blatant obstruction by Dunt on sub John Toner, who went close to adding a third goal with a lob from the edge of the box that eluded the far post.
