SMALL SQUAD CAN STILL RECLAIM TITLE
Alex Darlington is just denied by a last-ditch tackle from Prestatyn's Andy Davies.
RHYL smashed five past reigning champions Llanelli on Saturday night to edge leadership of the Welsh Premier on goal difference from The New Saints.
But after the 2-0 home win over Prestatyn Town, assistant boss Mike Davies believes his small squad can mount a challenge to regain the crown, if his players can steer clear of the treatment table.
"Prestatyn are a good side and they will surprise a lot of teams this year, but it was a great performance from the boys," he said.
"If we can keep our squad fit this season there is no reason why we can't go all the way.
"The size of our squad does worry me because a lot of teams have been spending a fair bit of money this year, so it's going to be a lot tighter."
The current TNS squad of 18 is the same size as Rhyl - who are rumoured to be on the verge of two new signings - but includes youth prospects John McKenna, Craig Whitfield and Ryan Marriott.
Meanwhile, winger Craig Davies from Gap Connah's Quay has been allowed to trial with the Saints.
A mid-summer signing for Nomads, who was injured in pre-season game, former Morecambe and Lancaster City forward Davies has recently spent a week on trial at AFC Bournemouth.
