JAMIE Wood is one definite non-starter when The New Saints bid to defend their 100%
start to the Welsh Premier season at Newtown on Sunday.
WELSH PREMIER LEAGUE NEWTOWN v THE NEW SAINTS
Sunday 7 Sep 2021 / Latham Park / 2.30
MATCH IS DEFINITELY ON
Jamie Wood
goes down under a challenge from Damien Daniels at Newtown last season.
The midfielder has been handed a two-game ban for his petulant dismissal in the 2-0 victory
over Prestatyn Town and also misses a Loosemores League Cup game against the same opponents
at Park Hall on Tuesday night.
But striker Michael Wilde and defender Michael Taylor should be fit after a virus.
Darren Ryan's Robins are chirping after a rare victory over their mid-Wales rivals Welshpool
Town last weekend and a 2-0 midweek League Cup success at NEWI Cefn Druids.
The Saints will be mindful that they returned from Latham Park with just one point in March
as their bid for a fourth consecutive league title hit the buffers.
Newtown's defence has been changed this season with the arrival of veterans Hugh Clarke
from Caersws and ex-TNS favourite Timmy Edwards from the Ancients.
Forward Craig Moses could be included after missing the last fortnight with injury while Gavin
Cadwallader faces a check after a knock against the Druids.
TNS assistant manager Mike Davies has warned of the pitfalls against his former club.
"We can go there with plenty of confidence but we certainly can't take anything for granted," he
said.
"We can’t afford to switch off for one moment as Newtown have scored six goals in
their last two games."
