FIVE
years ago to the day, TNS beat Newtown 5-2 at Latham Park with centre-back Jimmy Aggrey (pictured celebrating with Gary Brabin) scoring
his first goal for the club after arriving from Yeovil Town on a two-year deal.
The hosts were totally outclassed by the Saints, who established a four-goal lead through Michael
Wilde (47), Aggrey (66) and Nicky Ward's brace against his old club on 79 and 83 minutes.
Danny Barton's penalty produced an immediate response from Justin Perry, who added the fifth,
although Steve Futcher (now with Caersws) had the last word for the home side.
John Leah, Scott Ruscoe, Wilde and Jamie Wood survive from that side, while Steven Beck was
on the subs' bench along with John Toner. Jimmy Aggrey went on to play for Bohemians, Woking and Southport but has now retired and is
pursuing an acting career.
Of the remainder that played that day, Simon Davies is manager of Chester City and
Gary Brabin is in charge at Cambridge United.
Goalkeeper Dean Williams was last at Stafford Rangers, Chris Taylor returned to Rhyl, David
Bridgwater has just been released by Kings Lynn, while Nicky Ward is at NEWI Cefn Druids.
