The official youth system only started last September so it is still only a fledgling operation. There is a lot of young talent in the Academy sides and there is a club policy of including 2 youth players for any matchday squad, although that isnt always possible to implement. Nathan Brown has played 30 mins so far this season, but with so many top-class players in the first team squad, it is hard for the youth to shine when they aren't getting the opportunity to run out. Having said that, Andy Cale is very keen on introducing a streamlined club, developing youth and in the end benefiting from such home grown players, a la Man Utd, Crewe etc.
There is so much talent in the youth academy system it is only a matter of time till it bursts through - we have had people on here suggesting TNS' youth are inferior as they haven't played 30 first team matches by the age of 14, but the truth is, with such quality running through the club, you have to be good to make the grade. Give it another 6-8 months and I am certain we will see at least 4 regulars from the youth setup in the first team squad. |
