TNS will play Irish sides Derry City and Portadown in pre-season friendlies.
The game against Derry City is on Saturday 19 July at the infamous Brandywell Stadium with a 7.30pm kick-off and replaces Saints' planned friendly with Runcorn.
Saints will play Portadown at the club's Shamrock Park ground on Saturday 2 August with a 3.00 pm kick-off.

Greetings from Derry. Just wondering why you think the Brandywell is infamous?
Off topic but, you might be interested to know that we've got the mighty Barcelona coming in July, last Season we had Celtic & Real Madrid, and the season before we had Man Utd. All part of the ongoing 'save our club'

If anyone is coming over for the matches, you will have a ball (no pun intended) in Derry, where the pubs are good, the craic is great & theres no shortage of women.

I'd be extremely careful in Portadown in July/August though..

Been to both grounds. Brandwell was OK but nothing special (why is it infamous??) Derry is a lovely City though. Good food in excellent bars.

Portadown has religious adverts round the ground - never seen anything like it. Slightly gloomy feel to it but they're a good side - TNS will lose I predict.

Well correct me if I am wrong, but I seem to remember there was trouble there some years ago.
If not, I'll withdraw my remarks!
And without a doubt the craic will be unbeatable, not to mention the black stuff!

The only trouble i can recall in recent history (and this is going back about 5 years) is a bit of fighting between Derry fans and some fans up from Dublin. Think it was Shelbourne or St. Pats but it was nothing to write home about.

Unfortunately Derry havent been playing too well this season, trying to bed in some new players and our excellent keeper is out injured. Liam Coyle our star man is also out injured but then again thats no surprise. When he takes the field he looks like he's forgotten his skateboard.

Ports are a good side, especially up front. Vinnie Arkins is always amongst the top scorers and Hamilton now makes the Northern Ireland squads (though sadly thats not much to shout about the last few years)

So, how many fans do you think will be making the hop from Wales for the tour?

hello all saints. should be a laugh when you come over to play the city. should be a big crowd for it also as it is being used for a voucher game for the barcelona game. wish you all the best in your game against man city. just to point out that the brandywell is not infamous we dont even have a police presence at the ground as it is not deemed necessary because our fans welcome all comers with a warm welcome as you will find out yourselves .Also the brandywell was voted in a radio five live survey the 10th best ground for atmosphere in the uk ahead of the likes of old trafford and anfield.

I thought the atmosphere at Brandywell was quite good but you compare it with Anfield and Old Trafford both of which are quieter than closed public library.

Still TNS will liven it up for you.

What is the connection which links Vinnie Arkins and Saints Alive?

Does anyone know?

Ali[/quote] Answer; St Johnstone from Scottish 1st Division.
Vinnie used to play for them, and St Johnstone brought out a book titled "Saints Alive"

Don't understand what you mean by "conflict area " or "to be careful" . Sounds to me like that you are trying to BAD MOUTH Portadown fc .
Well i have to say to all TNS supporters that they will be all made welcome in PORTADOWN and in even more welcome at Shamrock Park . There is nothing to be" careful " about we always welcome our brothers and sisters from the UK and beyond .
I have to say though ,that the "infamous" Brandywell was a "no go" area for British Troops and personel years ago and still could be ? I suppose you could call it a "conflict" area !! I'm sorry to bore you with these facts about the politics of NI but in the interests of clarity and putting the record straight , it has to be said .
Portadown is a mixed team and enjoys the support of all . We do have some very good players ,but this a friendly and i hope that both teams enjoy the match and that you enjoy some degree of sucess against Manchester City .

Portadown is the most colourful town in NIreland at this time of the year . it is decorated with flags and buntings and looks really well . If you enjoy a fist fight then LONDONDERRY is the place to go ! The reason DERRY CITY play in the south of Ireland is because no Irish League clubs would go there ! Well the big clubs ! Just putting the record straight . Some people like the one above simply cannot leave politcs out not even soccer !

Red Hawk - are you going to the game?
I'm looking for someone to give me some stats and even a match report.

Red Hawk
You the man!
You can see our typical stats layout here:-
http://www.saints-alive.co.uk/tpl/matchdetails.php?id=192
And a photo or two would be brilliant if you manage to take any.
Unfortunately, due to holidays etc we only have a small management team travelling to Portadown.
