Richard 'hairy' Keys at Luton v Liverpool:

"It's literally all hands to the pump". Not raining, no water on the pitch?
"There's a trilogy in my life, an equilateral triangle, shall we say, of Gitanes, alcoholism and girls." [Serge Gainsbourg)

Listening to the Stoke game on Five Live the commentator (sounded young) mentioned my teenage hero, Brendan O'Callaghan goal scoring god of Doncaster in the 1970's.

Bren was also one of the rare breed of professional footallers who went to a Rugby Playing school. Would he ever get spotted these days?

5 minutes to go at Stoke v Newcastle, Five Live commentator: "Behind the stand opposite us there are suddenly a lot of blue flashing lights and people in bright yellow jackets, I don't know what's going on over there..."

That would be the police getting ready to escort the Toon Army back to their coaches (since there were no trains running back to Newcastle as it was a Sunday night!), hardly rocket science, but of course these commentators are never outside a ground after the end of a game to see what goes on are they, too busy rushing for the salmon and cucumber sandwiches and then off to the Press Conference to see who can ask the most banal question and which manager can give the appropriately banal answer...

Meanwhile, Sir Trevor introducing the FA Cup 4th Round Draw today, "... it's New Year which means that we're heading towards the business end of the competition and the bright lights of Wembley Stadium are on the horizon...."

To the best of my knowledge the FA Cup Final takes place on a Saturday in May, so what bright lights would they be then?

(should it be half-price as he only ever plays 45 minutes?)

Mark Saggers Five Live "... Portsmouth v Plymouth, that's a good game down there in the South, er, West..."

Has he actually looked at a map and seen where Portsmouth is?!

With a game like that he could have been 'Naval gazing'.

I know a headline which should be banned.
